ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's and Men's Track & Field and Cross Country has announced the hiring of Kortney Schutt to the staff as Assistant Track & Field and Cross Country Coach.

Schutt comes to Northwestern following her most recent coaching stint at Southwestern College (KS) as their assistant track and field coach. While with Southwestern she specialized in the throwing events.

Before she went to Southwestern she coached Neosho County Community College (KS) in 2022 and Southwest Baptist University (MO) for the 2020-21 season. While with Southwest Baptist she helped coach seven school records set in the 2020-21 season by both the men and women's throwers through the course of the season.

"I'm so excited to join the Ranger family and work alongside Coach Lancaster and Coach Young," said Schutt. "It's an honor to join in on a program with tremendous potential. There's something special building in these teams and I can't wait to contribute in any way I can!"

Prior to Schutt's coaching career she attended Friends University (KS) where she competed in the hammer, weight, shot put, and discus events. She earned NAIA All-American for the weight throw in 2020, and 2022, while being a National Qualifier for the shot put, discus, and hammer throw.

"I am excited about Kortney joining our programs. She has a proven track record as a student-athlete and coach, but the most important skill she has is interacting with her athletes. She is passionate about developing them outside of the field and will be a lifelong resource as they grow throughout their collegiate experience," stated men's track and field coach Derrick Young.

"We are delighted with the addition of Kourtney Schutt to our Track and Field/Cross Country coaching staff. She brings a wealth of talent with her expertise in throws. She is an elite student-athlete who has made the transition into a true educator and coach of this great sport. Her enthusiasm to promote our program is exciting," stated women's track and field coach Jill Lancaster.

She holds multiple records first being the KCAC conference record for the weight throw and two school records in the hammer and weight throw. Schutt was named the USTFCCCA Women's Field Athlete of the Year for the 2021-2022 season. In 2022 she was NAIA South Central Regional Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Schutt comes in with a USATF Level 1 Certification. She graduated from Friends University with her Master's Degree in Sports Administration and earned her Bachelor's degree in Religion and Philosophy.
