Box Score ADA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Football faced East Central in Ada Oklahoma Saturday afternoon. The Tigers used a late first half touchdown followed by an early second half touchdown to take a 17-7 lead before closing out the 20-14 win over the Rangers.
The Rangers fall to 1-6 on the season as East Central improves to 2-5 on the year.
Coby Tillman led the Rangers in tackles with 11 along with picking up a QB hurry, Aaziah Flores had the Rangers only sack of the game as Bashu Delco and Cameron Lee each had interceptions.
Offensively Brodey Johnson finished with 175 passing yards along with a touchdown, as Travis Romar had 42 yards and a receiving touchdown. Jahmiq Johnson led the team in yards with 56.
The opening quarter the Ranger defense after letting a first down on a 20 yard play answered with a big defensive play by Bashu Delco who intercepted the Tiger quarterback Sergio Kennedy to keep the home team off the board. After the Rangers were forced to punt by the East Central defense the Tigers kicked a field goal for the games first points taking a 3-0 lead over the Rangers. Northwestern had the answer though capitalizing on a nine play 83 yard drive after a 15 yard pass from Brodey Johnson to Jahmiq Johnson for 15 yards into East Central territory set up the 23 yard touchdown pass to Travis Romar and a 7-3 Ranger lead.
The first quarter ended 7-3 in favor of the Rangers as the Tigers were forced to punt by the Northwestern defense. The teams traded punts to open the second quarter before the Tigers were able to finish off a 13 play 65 yard drive taking seven minutes before finishing the drive off with a six yard touchdown pass from Kennedy to Mathis for a 10-7 lead over the Rangers. The Tigers got the ball back before halftime after their defense picked up an interception. The Rangers defense answered right before halftime having the second interception on Sergio Kennedy picked off by Cameron Lee heading into halftime.
The Rangers trailed 10-7 at halftime.
In the third quarter after a six play opening drive the Rangers were forced to punt before East Central used a 28 yard pass completion to set up a Cade Searcy rushing touchdown for 12 yards and extending the Tigers lead to 17-7 over the Rangers. The score remained 17-7 through the rest of the quarter heading into the fourth and final quarter.
Rangers forced an early punt to the Tigers taking over early in the fourth but traded punts as the East Central defense forced a three and out. East Central on their next drive used a 12 play 52 yard drive killing six minutes off the clock to extend the lead to 20-7 over the Rangers after hitting a 51 yard field goal.
Northwestern used a 39 yard pass from Brodey Johnson to Jahmiq Johnosn for 39 yards and a first down before a Caleb Deal run followed by a 14 yard pass to Romar had the Rangers inside the 20 into the red zone. The Rangers were down to the East Central nine yard line before the Tigers defense forced four straight incomplete passes to turnover the Rangers on downs. The Ranger defense forced a punt leading to a Ranger touchdown.
Caleb Deal threw a seven yard pass to Darien Gill, followed by a seven yard run for a first down as the Rangers got down to the East Central seven yard line before Giorgio Spiropulos ran in for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 20-14. After East Central control the onside kick sealed the Tigers win over the Rangers holding on for the 20-14 win over Northwestern.
Northwestern will be home against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon October 26th with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 PM against the Bison.
