DURANT, Okla. -- After falling in game one of the day, Robert Lawhon and the Rangers were dominant in game two, winning 4-0 and taking the series 2-1 in the process.

At the Plate
  • Shortstop Xyruse Martinez came alive in the series with the Savage Storm, going 3-for-5 on the day for a .600 batting average, while collecting two RBIs. He was also walked twice, and didn't record a strikeout in either contest.
  • Two other Rangers to hit over .300 on the day were freshmen, Cole Anderson and Alex Phillips who both hit .333 in the twin bill.
  • Jacob Long and Thomas Bess both went 1-for-3 at the dish in game two, and both hits were timely as they each brought across a run. Both hits came in the top of the third.
  • The final two runs of the big third inning came following the single by Martinez, scoring Greg Carrington and Long.
The K Zone
  • Pat Delano started on the hill for the Black-and-Red in game one of the day, striking out four in six innings of work. Following a tough first two innings for Delano, he was solid throughout the rest of his outing, not surrendering any runs over the next four innings.
  • Dakota Stanek entered the game in the seventh inning and was flawless, pitching two scoreless innings, striking out a pair of Southeastern batters and surrendering zero hits.
  • The final game of the series was dominated by senior hurler Lawhon, who threw a masterful two-hit shutout. The South Carolina native started off the game with four straight innings of three-up-three-down work. He also recorded the first complete game for Northwestern this season, striking out nine in the process.

Game Changer
  • Game one was a struggle for the Ranger offense as the team collected six hits and left 11 on base in the tough 4-0 loss.
  • In game two of the day, the third inning was big for the visitors as they scored all four runs in the frame, ultimately leading to the win.
  • Lawhon was a game changer in the final game of the series, shutting down the Savage Storm offense, allowing just two hits and no runs.
On Deck
  • Great American Conference play will continue next week as East Central comes to town for the weekend. Games will begin Friday Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. with a double header to follow on Saturday the 27th, beginning at noon.
