ALVA, Okla. -  Northwestern Oklahoma State took away the first game of the series after a strong comeback. The Ranger bats came alive as they collected 12 hits on the afternoon to propel them to the 6-4 victory.

At the Plate
  • Four Rangers collected multiple hits on the day as Jacob Long and Xyruse Martinez went 2-for-3, while Thomas Bess and Casey Dickerman batted .500 going 2-for-4.
  • The final two Ranger runs came during the bottom of the fifth against ECU starter Brandon Dusenberry when Greg Carrington flew out to right field for the sacrifice fly, scoring Garrett Douglas. Immediately following Carrington's sacrifice fly, Long stepped up and crushed a ball over the right center field fence.
The K Zone
  • Walker Wharton got the start for the Black-and-Red in the opening game of the series and had a solid outing, going six and one-third innings. He earned six strikeouts in the start, giving up four total runs, all unearned due to an error in the first inning.
  • Trevor Rakers came in to relieve Wharton, throwing a third of an inning, after which Brody Ausfahl came in and dealed.
  • Ausfahl took home the victory for Northwestern today going an inning and a third, striking out three in the process. All three K's were in his final inning of work, putting down the Tigers in order.
  • Closer, Jon Bauer came in to close out the game for the Black-and-Red, and gave up no runs on no hits with a strikeout.
Game Changer
  • The first inning was big for the Tigers as a grandslam started off the game, but that was all the visitors could muster as the Ranger hurlers shut down the bats through the remaining eight innings.
  • Bess came up big in the bottom of the third inning, smoking a single up the middle, scoring Carrington as well as Dickerman.
  • The other two runs were an obvious game changer in the fifth with Carrington's sac fly and Long's homerun.
On Deck
  • Northwestern will finish out the series tomorrow afternoon with East Central where they will take a 1-0 series lead against the Tigers. Games tomorrow afternoon will begin at noon.
