GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Northwestern Oklahoma State softball team took on Texas A&M Kingsville in the 1:30 p.m. game and Lubbock Christian in the late game on Day two of the North Texas Softball Bash and came away with a loss to the Javelinas, 6-3 and another to Lubbock Christian, 3-0.
Leading the way offensively for the Black-and-Red was
Madi Parrott who was pretty dominant at the plate on day two of the weekend, going 4-for-5 on the afternoon, while several other Rangers recorded a single hit, including
Megan Sanders,
Brittany Corrales,
Alexis Hayes and
Madison McGraw.
In the circle for the Rangers in game one was
Madison Garza who was relieved by both
Jalena Arthur and
Kendall Jones in the game. Starting game two was
Karly Murray who went the distance against the powerful Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian, but was unable to get a victory in the matchup.
Game One
Northwestern actually collected two more hits than TAMUK with five. Parrott was again a big part of the Ranger offense, going 2-for-2 at the plate, scoring a run in the process. Perhaps the biggest hit of the game however came off the bat of Sanders, who hit a three-run bomb in the bottom of the seventh inning, to make it a little more interesting. Adding the other two hits for the designated home team were Hayes and McGraw.
The first inning was a tough one as Northwestern gave up a four-run lead to the Javelinas, making it very difficult to overcome, but the Rangers battled the rest of the way, giving up just two more runs in the fourth inning.
Although the Rangers were able to collect five hits on the afternoon, runs were hard to come by, as two were left aboard in the game, which could have possibly made a difference in the final boxscore.
The final inning for the Rangers was a big one as Parrott started things off with a double, and was followed up by a McGraw single to put two on. Making for the second out of the inning,
Macy Madewell struck out, but Sanders was up next, and with the big swing that sailed over the wall made it a three-run game. Unfortunately it was too-little-too-late for the Rangers as a pop-up to the pitcher would end the game in a 6-3 defeat.
Game Two
For the second-straight game, Northwestern wasn't able to produce much offense or runs, as the Rangers collected just three hits, and produced no runs in the three-run defeat.
Parrott (2-for-3) again led the way for the designated visiting team as she added two more hits in game two of Saturday's scheduled games, while Corrales added the other to the scoresheet (1-for-3). The only other Ranger to reach base was Sanders who was walked twice on the evening.
Leading off the second inning, Parrott started off with a single to left field on the first pitch of the at-bat, but was immediately ousted on a fielder's choice in the next at-bat. Ending the potential threat were two strikeouts to end the inning.
Game two starter, Murray was sound as she gave up just five hits and three runs in the contest, but unfortunately didn't have any run support to help keep the Chaps at bay.
Two of the Lubbock Christian runs came during the second inning, while the other came during the fourth, turning out to be enough to oust the Rangers.
UP NEXT
Northwestern will finish off the weekend tomorrow where they will take the field early against Texas Woman's University at 10 a.m. and will conclude the North Texas Softball Bash in a contest with Tarleton State at approximately 12:30 p.m.
