ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University football will honor its seniors Saturday afternoon when the Rangers host Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m. at Ranger Field.
Northwestern will recognize 12 Ranger seniors prior to the contest as they take part in their final home game in Alva, including: Erick Cook, Kyler Ferguson, Zave Goodrich, Andrew Lesnick, Jason Malae, Trey Merritt, Brandon Niccum, Jimmie Pace, Horatio Smith, Collin Stork, Carlos Torres and Isaiah Weed.
The Rangers enter the contest with a 3-5 record after a 38-7 loss in week eight against No. 24 Harding, while the Crimson Storm are struggling this season at 1-7 and are coming off a 41-0 blowout by No. 4 Ouachita Baptist last week.
Northwestern holds a 12-2 all-time series lead against Southern Nazarene. NWOSU has the highest winning percentage against SNU than any other opponent in which there has been 10 or more contest played.
Last season, the Rangers suffered their first loss on the field to the visitors from Bethany, Oklahoma. Prior to that contest, the only other loss against SNU came in via a forfeit in 2006.
Playing in his final game at home, Smith continues to show why he is one of the most prolific return men in program history as he is currently leading the conference with a kick return average of 27 yards, including a touchdown at Southeastern earlier this season. Smith is also fifth in the league with 732 all-purpose yards this season.
Much of the Southern Nazarene struggles this season has come on the offensive side of the ball. The Crimson Storm are currently at the bottom of the Great American Conference in scoring offense at just 11.6 points a game and are collecting under 200 yards a game, also last in the conference.
However, the Crimson Storm pass defense has been a bright spot, only allowing 142 yards through the air.
Saturday's contest can be heard on 105.7 The Pulse with broadcast team Matt Adair doing play-by-play and color commentator Dustin Goodno. Live stats for the game will be available on RideRangersRide.com and video stream on the Northwestern Athletics page at YouTube.com/NWOSURangers.
