ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State softball is set to open conference play Friday afternoon with a three-game series with Arkansas Monticello at the Alva Recreation Complex.
The Rangers come into the weekend with a 3-1 record after a two-game sweep of Sterling (Kan.) this past Tuesday, while Blossoms will be opening their season Friday.
Jill DeVries leads NWOSU, going into her fifth season with the program.
Through the first week of the season, the Red-and-Black offense has been led by Lindsey McElroy, coming into the series hitting .533, followed by Morgan La Neve boast a .444 average, while Allison Zanca has a .308 average. McElroy leads the team with five RBI with four runs scored and three doubles. La Neve has three RBI, while Zanca, Regan Burleson, Hannah Howell each have two.
Howell leads northwestern's pitching staff; she starts the season 2-0, throwing 12.2 innings allowing four runs, two earned for a 1.11 ERA and has struck out 13 to start the season. Hannah Scoggin holds a 1-0 record; In 8.1 innings pitched, she boasts an ERA of 0.00. Allie Hufford has thrown 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts in two appearances for the Rangers.
Arkansas Monticello:
The Blossoms will open their season this weekend in Alva after having their first six games canceled. They finished the season 11-12 last year with a 9-3 conference record before the cancelation.
Arkansas Monticello is led by head coach Kyle Lem who begins his third season at the helm. He holds a 36-39 record through those seasons.
Last season, Caroline Tedder led the Blossoms, Hannah Holdbrook and Haley Godeaux, hitting .333, .333 and .321 on the season, respectively. Tedder led the team with five homeruns on the season in their 23 games, followed by Godeaux with four. Tedder also led the UAM offense with 23 RBI on the season and Sydney Webster with 19.
Alexis Pevehouse, the lone returned pitcher for Arkansas Monticello, led the staff with four wins on the season, pitching in 14, posting a 4.09 ERA with two complete-game shutouts and a save through 53.0 innings pitched.
History:
The Rangers enter the weekend series after dropping last year's 3-1. Arkansas Monticello won the final game 9-8. All-time, the Blossoms lead the head-to-head series 14-10.
