Ranger Softball heads south to take on Southwestern

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State softball will hit the road for the first time in Great American Conference play, as they will travel to Weatherford, Okla. to take on Southwestern on Tuesday in a doubleheader. The third game of the rivalry series will be in Alva on April 6th.

The Red-and-Black brings an overall record of 7-5 overall and 2-4 in Great American Conference play into the series, while SWOSU has a record of 0-6, 0-3 in GAC play.

Jill DeVries leads NWOSU, going into her fifth season with the program. She has the team off to the best start to the season during her tenure.

The Rangers have been led by Hannah HowellKalie Johnson, Morgan La Neve and Lindsey McElroy. Howell leads the team with a .484 average. La Neve boasts a .375 average, while McElroy has a .359 average and Johnson carries an average of .302. La Neve leads the team with 12 RBI, with McElroy and Allison Zanca behind her with nine and eight. Jayden Solberg currently has six and Howell brings four RBI into the series. 

Howell leads Northwestern's pitching staff; she brings A record of 5-1 into the series, throwing 40.2 innings allowing 11 runs, six earned for a 1.03 ERA; she has struck out 32 so far this season. Hannah Scoggin holds a record of 1-2; In 22.0 innings pitched, she carries an ERA of 1.59. Alexia Taylor has the other win for the Rangers, with a record of 1-0, in 4.0 innings pitched and an ERA of 5.25.

Southwestern:

The Bulldogs come into the series winless, losing six straight to start the season after being swept by Oklahoma Baptist last weekend.

SWOSU is led by Gracen Williamson, who has a .444 clip with a double and an RBI. The other Bulldog with an average above .400 is Breanna Simmons, who boasts a .429 with two doubles and a homerun, with four RBI.

The Bulldogs have used three pitchers this season and are led by Grover, with an 0-3 record, an ERA of 3.79 in 20.1 innings pitched. Brianna Cryer holds an ERA of 6.63 in 6.1 innings of work, while Alisa Friesen brings an ERA of 8.40 with an 0-3 record in 11.2 innings of action.

Southwestern is led by head coach Kim Maher, who is in her fifth season in Weatherford. Maher holds a 56-126 record through those seasons. She has a career record of 296-330-3 over 13 seasons.

History:

The Rangers enter the mid-week series, with the last matchup against SWOSU being April of 2019; due to the season's cancelation in 2020, Northwestern fell 3-1 in the series. The Rangers lost the last meeting 7-6. All time, the Bulldogs lead the head-to-head series 15-13.
