Northwestern Hits the Road for One Last Time in 2021

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State softball heads to Magnolia for the final road trip and series of the regular season. The Rangers will face off in a three-game series with Southern Arkansas at Dawson Field at the Dr. Margaret Downing Softball Complex.
 
The Rangers brings an overall record of 8-28 overall and 3-27 in Great American Conference play into the series.
 
Jill DeVries leads the Red-and-Black; this is her fifth season leading the program.
 
Northwestern has six players with a batting average above .280, with Hannah Howell leading the team with a .389, Mesa Gann has a .311, while Allison Zanca holds a .302 and Kalie Johnson is batting .300. Lindsey McElroy has a .297 average and Morgan La Neve holds a .294 average. Howell and Solberg are tied for the team lead in homeruns with five apiece, while McElroy has four. 
 
Howell carries a team-high 24 RBI into the game, Zanca follows with driving in 18 and Solberg is third on the team with 17. La Neve and McElroy are tied for with 15 RBI.
 
Howell heads Northwestern's pitching staff, with a record of 5-11 coming into the series, throwing 94.0 innings, with an ERA of 5.29; she has struck out 58 batters this season. Hannah Scoggin has thrown 80.1 innings this season for the Rangers. She has an ERA of 4.97 while striking out 38. Taylor has a record of 2-2 in 12.0 innings pitched while striking out six. 
 
Southern Arkansas:
 
The Muleriders bring an overall record of 20-7 into the series, while 16-5 in the GAC. Southern Arkansas comes into the weekend after taking the series from Oklahoma Baptist two games to one.
 
Alese Casper leads SAU with a .422 batting average, a team-high 25 hits, three doubles, a triple, two homeruns and 16 RBI. Laina Suesue boasts a .361 average, with seven doubles, a triple, six homeruns and 25 RBI, while Jaxynn Dyson carries a .349 average, with four doubles, five homeruns and has driven in 16 runs. Elisa Favela is the final Mulerider with an average above .300, batting .317, with nine doubles, five homeruns and 13 RBI.
 
Southern Arkansas is led by Sydney Wader with a 1.86 ERA, while Victoria Taylor has a 1.97 ERA. Wader carries a 6-3 record in 12 starts, throwing 67.2 innings with 51 strikeouts. Taylor is 10-2 on the season, pitching 71.0 innings, with a team-high 81 strikeouts, while Favela is 3-1 with an ERA of 3.10 in 29.1 innings. 
 
SAU is led by head coach Jason Anderson, who is in his seventh season at the helm in Magnolia. Anderson has a record of 273-86 during that time. In his 14 years as a head coach, he has amassed a record of 580-159.
 
History:
 
The Red-and-Black enter the series after falling to Arkansas Tech last weekend. Northwestern was swept by Southern Arkansas in Alva last year. All time, the Muleriders lead the head-to-head series 23-7 and are in front with a 6-2 record in Magnolia. SAU has won the last 13 matchups, with the Rangers' previous victory in the series came on 3/26/2017 with a 2-1 win.
