Ranger Softball Set For 2022 Home Opener vs Newman Tuesday Afternoon

ALVA, Okla- Ranger Softball concluded their five game stretch on the road to open the season, as they are now set to return home for the 2022 home opener. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00PM and 4:00 PM on Ranger Softball Field at the Alva Recreational Complex.
 

The Rangers (3-2 overall and 0-0 GAC) will host Newman University to opener their home part of the schedule, the first of six straight home games. 
 

Over the weekend Northwestern is led by Allison Zanca in batting average at .400 this season followed closely by Abby DeTar .375 and Lindsey McElroy .357. Lindsey McElroy and Hannah Howell have the two Rangers' home runs on the season from the opening weekend. Howell leads the team with 7 RBI after a 6 RBI performance Saturday. Northwestern has hit 11 doubles to this point in the season as nine different players have at least one along with three different players having hit a triple on the year. 
 

Howell has led the Rangers in the circle this year throwing three complete games this week to start the season for a total of 19 IP allowing three earned runs for a 1.11 ERA to date. She has one shutout on the season and a 3-0 record. Opponents are hitting .259 over the Ranger pitcher. Hannah Scoggin is second on the team with a 4.20 ERA in two appearances so far this season with a 0-0 record in 5 innings of work allowing three earned runs with three strikeouts. 


Scouting the Jets: 

Newman Jets (2-0 and 0-0 MIAA) enter play Tuesday perfect on the season following wins over Friends University a total of 18-8. 

Lindsay Mayo is the teams leading hitter at .571 on the season, one of two players over .500 as Laurie Cooke is hitting exactly .500. Like the Rangers the Jets have two home runs hit on the season, one by Taylor Ullery and Madison Canez both hitting .375 on the year. Canez and Gianna Navarro are the teams leading RBI players with four each. 
 

In the circle for the Jets Janine Gutierrez leads the team with a 0.00 ERA in 7 innings of work following a complete game allowing one unearned run while striking out three. Megan Walz is second with a 4.67 ERA allowing two runs in three innings with two strikeouts on the season. Gutierrez and Walz have the Jets wins on the year. 


History:
 

This will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two programs since 2013 as the Rangers hold the 7-3 advantage overall in the series history.  Northwestern has won three of the last four meetings with the teams splitting the two games last time in Alva. Northwestern swept both meetings in Wichita last season. Overall the Rangers are 3-1 against the Jets in Alva.
