ALVA OKLAHOMA- The Ranger softball team will open conference play Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader set for a 1:00PM first pitch and the second game following shortly after.
The Rangers (5-2 overall) are coming off a two game sweep of Newman including a walk-off sweep over the Jets. It has been 12 days since the Rangers were on the field following four cancellations due to inclement weather.
Northwestern this season has been led on offense by Lindsey McElroy and Hannah Howell each hitting .435 on the season. They are joined by two other players hitting over .400 which include Abby DeTar and Jayden Solberg. McElory and Solberg lead the team with two home runs each on the season. The RBI leader on the team is McElory and DeTar for the Rangers.Out of the qualified hitters McElory and Mackenzie Adams lead the team with an OBP of .500 on the season.
In the circle for the Rangers the team has been led by Howell's four wins along with Victoria Vasquez picking up the win in the last game against Newman. Howell has thrown the most innings 23.2 on the season for the Rangers with an ERA of 2.43 on the season. Howell has struckout 14 and has thrown a complete game in three of her four starts. Hannah Scoggin has thrown eight innings for the Rangers sitting second on the team.
Scouting the Blossoms:
Arkansas- Monticello (5-8 overall) enters play on a three games losing streak in the hands of University of Texas Tyler. Their last game coming back on February 19th in that series after playing in two classics to open the season.
Their offense has been led by Madison Morrissey hitting .417 on the season in 10 games played. She is joined by Grace Neal and Alissa Suarez batting over .300 on the year. Neal leads the team with three home runs to date entering the series followed by Christa Lannon with two home runs. Neal leads the team with 11 RBI Lannon and Tedder have eight each.
Jamie Franks has been the best pitcher to start the season for Arkansas-Monticello throwing in five games (three starts) with an ERA of 0.89 in a team high 20 innings thrown so far this season. She has two complete games in those three starts. Sam Stephens is second with 16 innings pitched with an ERA of 4.96 on the year in three starts made.
History:
Northwestern leads the series history against the Blossoms 16-15 overall in the 31 games played following the Rangers winning two of the three games last season over Arkansas- Monticello. Overall the Rangers lead 3-2 in the last five meetings between the two teams.
