Alva, Oklahoma- Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers softball is set to play host to Southeastern Oklahoma State this weekend for a three game series. The Rangers will play one on Saturday with first pitch set for 4:00 PM followed by a Sunday doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
The Rangers (9-8 overall and 3-5 GAC) enter play over the weekend on a two game win streak following a doubleheader sweep over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday 9-1 and 7-6. Northwestern is 3-2 in their last five games.
Lindsey McElroy leads the team with a .442 average as one of six players hitting over the .300 mark so far this season. She is joined by Genesis Rodriguez (.393), Abby DeTar (.385), Hannah Howell (.380), Jayden Solberg (.367), and Allison Zanca at (.333). Rodriguez leads the team with a .514 OBP% followed by McElroy at .510%. The Rangers have hit 16 home runs in their 17 games led by Solberg with five home runs and 14 RBI's which is tied for second on the team with McElroy. DeTar leads the team in runs batted in with 17 on the year for Northwestern. DeTar, Howell, and Mackenzie Adams lead the team with five doubles each this year.
Howell leads the Rangers pitching staff with a 6-1 record in nine games and has thrown six complete games in those starts including two shutouts on the year. She enters with a 4.59 ERA in 49 innings of work striking out 31 batters. Victoria Vasquez is second on the teams in wins with two in each of her two appearances this season. Allie Hufford has Northwestern's other win this season in seven appearances in 13 innings of work earning a save this season. Hannah Scoggin has thrown the second most innings at 26.2 in seven appearances for the Rangers this season striking out 12 batters.
Scouting the Savage Storm:
Southeastern (14-11 overall and 5-3 GAC) enter the series vs. Northwestern on a two game win streak following a doubleheader sweep in Ada against East Central. Overall the Savage Storm are 4-1 in their last five games with a 2-2 road record.
Their offense is led by Peyton Streetman who leads the team with a .357 batting average as one of three players hitting above .300 out of qualified Savage Storm players based on plate appearances. She is joined by Cheyenne Mahy, and Alexis Lambert at .324 and .308 respectively. Kamarie Wallace leads the team in home runs with three of the team's nine on the season. She is the team lead in RBIs with 19 on the year followed by Mahy with 17.
The Savage Storm pitching staff is led by Mahy with eight wins on the season in 20 appearances this season including 10 starts with a 3.33 ERA with four complete games. Amberlyn Walsworth is second in wins with six this season in 19 appearances with 14 starts and five complete games.
History:
This will be the 32nd-34th game between the two teams at the conclusion of the series as the Savage Storm lead the series 26-5 over the Rangers. Northwestern will look to snap their eight game losing streak against Southeastern in the series, with the last win coming in 2018 in a 13-8 win in Alva.
