ALVA, OKLAHOMA- The Rangers softball team is set to travel to Wichita, Kansas to play a midweek non-conference game against Newman University to wrap up the season series against the Jets. Northwestern took the first two games this season winning the second game in walk-off fashion in game two.
Northwestern (5-5 overall and 0-3 GAC) enters play coming off their conference opening series at Arkansas Monticello. The Rangers will look to snap their three game losing streak.
The Rangers are led by Hannah Howell in batting average at .462 followed by Abby DeTar, Jayden Solberg and Lindsey McElory as the four Rangers above the .400 mark on the season. Mackenzie Adams is the fifth over the .300 average. Three Rangers are all tied with two home runs on the season in McElroy, Solberg and Adams. McElory and Howell lead the team in RBIs with 13 and 11 on the season.
Howell leads the pitching staff with four wins on the season with the fifth win coming from Victoria Vasquez. Howell has thrown three complete games in her four starts. She leads the team in strikeouts with 18 and innings pitched with 28 on the season.
Scouting the Jets:
The Jets are 4-6 in the season after dropping their last game to Minnesota Crookston a part of the Washburn Tournament, where they finished 2-2 on the trip.
Newman is led by Lindsay Mayo hitting .452 as one of seven hitters above .300 on the season. Mayo along with the average has one home run and 7 RBI. Madison Canez and Taylor Ullery lead the team with two home runs on the season, four of the team's six overall. Gianna Navarro leads the team with nine RBI on the year followed by Ullery with eight on the season.
The Jets pitching staff is led by Madison Dewitt with the team lead 21 innings pitched on the season followed by Megan Walz. Dewitt and Gutierrez each have a complete game on the season as Dewitt leads the team with 18 strikeouts on the season.
History:
The Rangers lead the series history 9-3 as this will be meeting number 13 and 14 of the season between the two teams. Northwestern has won four straight and five of the last six following sweeping the doubleheader earlier in the season on February 15th.
Northwestern won the game on 13-5 in five innings before coming back to win in the seventh inning on a walk-off home run hit by Adams. Howell picked up the win in game one with Vasquez earning the second win in game two for her first of the season.
