BETHANY, OKLAHOMA - The Ranger Softball team is set to open a three game series again Southern Nazarene Friday afternoon. The series is set to open with a Friday 3:00 PM first pitch followed by a Saturday doubleheader at Noon and 2:00 PM.
Northwestern (12-17-1 overall and 6-11 GAC) enters the weekend games following a tie Tuesday afternoon, the programs first dating back to 2000. The Rangers are 3-10 on the road this season after winning their last game over Ouachita Baptist last weekend.Â
In the circle the Rangers have been led by Hannah Howell making the most starts to date this season with 18 on the year including a 9-4 record with 10 complete games including two shutouts. She has thrown 97 innings through the 18 starts while striking out 57. Victoria Vasquez has the lowest ERA at 0.93 with a 2-1 record the second most wins of the season from Ranger pitching. Hannah Scoggin is second with two complete games and 51.1 innings pitched.Â
The offense has been led by Abby DeTar with a .444 batting average this season with six home runs and 30 RBIs as the Rangers leadoff hitter. She is one of two hiters above .400 and one of four hitters above .300. She is joined by Allison Zanca at .403, Jayden Solber at .326, and Lindsey McElroy with a .314 average. DeTar and Mackenzie Adams lead the team with six home runs on the season with Solberg third with five. Adams is second in runs batted in behind DeTar.Â
Scouting the Crimson Storm:
Southern Nazarene (12-18 overall and 9-7 GAC) enters the weekend coming off a series victory over Harding in Searcy Arkansas. The Crimson Storm are 7-5 at home in Bethany on the season.
In the circle they are led by Chelsea Vandiver with a 4.59 ERA in nine starts made with 61 innings of work. Jennifer Romero Ivarson leads the team in innings pitched with 102 on the season including seven complete games and two shutouts along with two saves. She has struck out 85 hitters in those games.Â
The offense has been led by Liana Heshiki with a .418 batting average and a .496 OBP as one of four hitters above .300 in Natalie Jones .370, Hailie Fellers .321 and Emma Swearingen .318. Caitlyn Curlee leads the team with four home runs on the season and 16 RBIs which are second on the team. Jones leads the team with 19-RBI on the year.Â
History:Â
This will be games number 36-38 between the two programs. Southern Nazarene leads the history 19-14 over the Rangers in the 35 games played to date. The Crimson Storm took three straight in 2021 after the Ranger had taken three straight the previous year for a 3-3 record in the last six games between the two schools.
