Northwestern Drops Final Game in Opening Weekend

Box Score ARKANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers closed out thier opening weekend against Arkansas Monticello Saturday afternoon in a game in which does not count in league play. The Blossoms jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in the first inning gaining an early lead that the Blossoms would not lose. 

The Rangers drop to 1-2 on the season as Arkansas Monticello improves to 2-1 this year. Abby Detar led Northwestern with three hits and three runs scored including a three run home run trying to et the Ragners back in the game in the 5th inning.

In the opening inning of the game Northwestern allowed three runs as the Blossoms got two straight singles before they got a three run home run in their half of the inning after the Rangers went down scoreless taking an early 3-0 lead. 

The Rangers responded back with one run in the second inning as DeTar led off with a single before advancing on a couple errors and coming around to score on a passed ball shrinking the Ranger deficit to 3-1. Arkansas Monticello came across thier final runs of the ball game with their third three run inning of the game pushing across their 10th run of the afternoon on a couple of timely hits on a single with an extra base hit to follow. 

Following the Rangers run in the second inning. Arkansas Monticello was ready to answer getting a leadoff double before a single and their second home run of the game in as many inning pushed their lead to 7-1 over Northwestern. With the Rangers trailing 10-3 the team picked up a couple base runners off a single from Spearman followed by an erorr before an RBI single by Hannah Howell. The Red-and-Black were not done there as DeTar followed with a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 10-6 in the fifth inning. 

The Rangers were not going down quitely as in the sixth inning the team had two base runners reach for first and second but the side was than retired with the Rangers unable to scratch a run across. In the seventh and final inning, Northwestern tried pushing a rally together loading the bases but Northwestern would be held on the base path once more being held with six runs. Arkansas Monticello closed out the 10-6 victory over the Rangers. 

Northwestern will next play at home for the 2023 home opener as the Rangers are set to take on the Newman Jets Tuesday February 7th in a doublheader scheduled for 1 / 3:00PM.
