CANYON, TEXAS - Ranger Track & Field completed their three day meet in Canyon Texas part of the Jo Meeker Classic & Multi hosted by West Texas A&M. Northwestern had 26 personal records set over the weekend. This included three new school records as well in the long jump, heptathlon, and 4x4 relay.
Valerie Nzeakor set the school record in long jump and is now ranked number 15 in National DII and the second was the 4x4 set by Ladasheray Bell, Shakira Lane, Diamond Hilton, and Renaja Engermann.
In the 100 meter dash Shackera Douglas finished 11th in the meet for this event with a final time of 11.86m was the top finisher for the Rangers. For the Rangers in the 200m dash was led by Shackera Douglas placing 18th overall in the event with a final time of 25.31.
The 800 meter dash the Rangers had Jasmin Garcia place in the top eight of the event as she finished seventh overall with a time of 2:32.52. Kate Foster placed 10th in the event with a 2:43.33. In the 1500 meter run the Rangers had two places in the top 10 as Jasmin Garcia placed second with a final time of 5:25.08 and Addie Hoeme with a time of 6:16.31. Hoeme placed sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 22:44.08.
In the 100 meter hurdles the Rangers had a top five finisher in Machala Hengen as she had a final mark of 14.81 in this event to lead the Rangers. Northwestern had one other athlete in the top 10 in Diamond Choate with a 16.80 time placing 10th.
In the 4x100 meter relay the Rangers placed fourth and fifth in this event as the Rangers first group consisting of Darianne Thompson, Brianna Brantley, Shackera Douglas, Riley Midgett ran a 47.70. In fifth place in the 4x100 consisted of Tavonyia Lacy, Debbie Olalere, Valerie Nzeakor, and Machala Hengen.
Takia Zachary placed inside the top 10 at number seven in the high jump even with a final marking of 1.53m. The high jump was followed by the long jump as Valerie Nzeakor placed fifth in the event with a mark of 6.00m setting the new school record in the event. Also now ranking 15th in the nation for Division II in this event.
In the triple jump Maryam Dianka finished with a mark of 10.98m placing inside the top 10 for the triple jump placing at eighth for the Rangers. Ladasheray Bell placed 10th in the triple jump for the Rangers.
Kelsey Swindle was the next Ranger placing inside the top eight as she was seventh in the discus throw with a final mark of 39.19m in the event. In the Javelin Throw Kelsey Swindle and Jordyn Tucker each placed in the top 10. Tucker finished in ninth with a 31.60m followed by Swindle at 30.81m in 10th in the event.
Gina Wilson finished the heptathlon setting the new school record and beating her record for the 2022 GAC Championships.
Next for the Rangers, Northwestern will compete in the Bethel meet on April 15th this upcoming weekend.
