Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WICHITA FALLS TEXAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball closed out their trip to Midwestern State opening year tournament with two games Saturday. The Rangers split the doubleheader following a 7-1 victory over Midwestern State, and a 4-0 loss to Cameron University.

The Rangers split the overall weekend trip 2-2 to start the season splitting both days of the trip.

GAME ONE:

In the first game Rachel Sherwood went 4-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Avery Clark crossed the plate twice for two runs scored in the game.

The opening game Hannah Howell had the start in the circle throwing a complete game only allowing one run while striking out three picking up the win.

The two starting pitchers in Hannah Howell for the Rangers and Cameron for Midwestern State started strong in this one as the game remained scoreless until the third inning when the Ranger offense struck in the top half of the inning.

Sherwood started the rally with a one out single before Laney Anderson hit a single to load the bases. Rivera drew a walk to force in a run for a 1-0 lead before a Howell sacrifice fly pushed across run number two. This led to a Kaitlyn Corn RBI double to score Anderson and give the Rangers a 3-0 lead.

Rangers wasted no time extending their lead as in the next inning went around to score three more runs. The Rangers pushed runners to the corners following a walk and a single, setting up a two-RBI single by Stopp scoring both Clark and Sherwood after Sherwood stole second. The Rangers then led 5-0 in the fourth inning. Rivera pushed across the sixth run of the game on an RBI groundout as Low came around to score.

Northwestern had back to back extra base hits in the sixth inning as Avery Clark led off with a double before Sherwood hit an RBI triple to right field, scoring Clark and taking a 7-0 lead over Midwestern State.

Howell's shutout attempt ended in the seventh after two straight singles to start the inning led to the first run crossing the plate later in the inning on the third single of the inning, this one an RBI from Ayala. Howell worked around any further damage with a groundout to end the game, earning her first complete game of the season.

GAME TWO:

The second game of the afternoon was against Cameron University  to close out the weekend. Cameron used a fast start scoring one run in each of the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead.

It started in the home half of the first after a leadoff single was followed by back to back walks loading the bases. Loughman followed with an RBI single to left field pushed across the game's first run and an early 1-0 lead.

In the second inning the Aggies used a leadoff double and a walk to eventually lead to another run, this one scoring on a sacrifice fly by Schmidgall to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead over the Rangers. The Aggies loaded the bases again in the third leading to their second sacrifice fly of the afternoon to extend the home team's lead to 3-0.

The Aggies pushed across the fourth run in the fourth inning started by a leadoff walk followed by a single to put runners on the corners which led to an RBI groundout.

The Rangers finished with four hits in the game, two coming from Stopp, and one each from Corn, and Clark.

The Aggies were able to close out the victory over the Rangers 4-0 following their fast start over the Rangers. Northwestern will continue their opening season road trip with three straight in Colorado starting with a doubleheader against Adams State on Tuesday.
