ARKANSAS CITY, KANSAS - Northwestern Oklahoma State competed in the Mark Phillips Tiger Open hosted by Cowley College. Northwestern finished with 28 personal best and one school record. The Rangers placed first in two events that include the 4x400 meter relay and the 4x800 meter relay.
"The team made the most out of the first meet of the outdoor season. Season looks bright as the team filled many events with depth finding a lot of success this weekend" stated head coach Jill Lancaster.
The first event was the 100m for the Rangers. Northwestern was led by Shackera Douglas with a time of 12.37, one of three Rangers placing inside the top 30. Brianna Brantley and Haley Combs were the next two as Brantley ran a 12.71 placing 23rd followed by Combs at 13.00 placing 30th.
Machala Hengen placed in the top 10 for the 100m Hurdles finishing with a time of 16.85 in the event placing eighth overall.
The 200M event for the Rangers, Northwestern had four place inside the top led by Douglas with a time of 26.08 for 18th overall in the meet. Tavonyia Lacy was 22nd overall with a time of 26.24 followed by teammate Diamond Hilton in 23rd with a time of 26.24. Shakira Lane was the fourth Ranger placing 28th overall with a time of 26.67.
Next for the Rangers in the 400m and 400m hurdles the Rangers had one athlete in each. Riley Hensley finished the 400m with 1:07.10 for 25th overall in the event. Gina Wilson was the representative in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:13.23.
In the 800m event the Rangers were led by Reina Gonzales with a time of 2:43.79 as one of three top 25 finishers. Joined by Andrea Becerra in 18th place with a time of 2:50.34 followed by Brooke Whittet with a time of 3:03.38.
The 1500m the Rangers were led by Elizabeth Dorado as one of three Rangers placing in the top 30 of the event. Dorado placed 21st overall with a time of 5:55.31. Jamie Torres-Franco was 26th overall at 6:19.55 followed by Kayhla Talavera in 28th at 6:53.97
In the 5000m the Rangers had two top five finishers in Cadence Long-Torres and Asia Williams. Long-Torres was 3rd overall with a time of 19:59.03 and Williams was fourth with a time of 20:03.69.
In the field events the Rangers were led by Chloe Grusing in the discus throw placing 11th overall in the event with a mark of 36.93m as one of two Rangers in the top 15. Hannah Appleton was the second with a throw of 36.82m.
Appleton led the way in the hammer throw with 41.00m placing tenth overall in the event. She was one of two in the top 25 joined by Braelynn Cunningham with a mark of 35.97m.
The high jump Maryam Dianka, and Gina Wilson were the two Rangers competing in the event. Dianka led the way with a 10th place finish at a mark of 1.43m, followed by Gina Wilson in 11th overall with a mark of 1.38m.
Jordyn Tucker led the way in the javelin throw as one of three placing into the top 20 but the only Ranger in the top five. Tucker threw with a best of 31.66m for a 5th place finish. Alexandra Kepley placed 14th with a throw of 25.00m followed by Kaylan Swindle with a 17th place finish.
Darianne Thompson was the leader for the Rangers in the long jump with a fourth place finish with a best of 5.16m for a fourth place finish. Maryam Dianka was the other Ranger with a top 10 placement finishing ninth overall with a 4.90m mark.
In pole vault the Rangers had Piper Gallagher and Olivia Saner compete in the event both with top 10 placements. Saner finished 7th at 2.97m with Gallagher at 8th with a 2.82m
The Rangers had three top 15 finishers in the shot put as Chloe Grusing led with a 10.94m placing 11th overall in the event. Emmalee Osborn had her best at 10.87m for a 12th place finish followed by Hannah Appleton in 15th with a finish of 10.66m.
The 4x100 meter relay the Rangers had three teams run but were led by Douglas, Brantley, Hilton, and Thompson placing third overall running a 48.03.
Northwestern won the 4x400 meter relay led by Lacy, Hilton, Brantley, and Engermann with a first place finish at 4:18.32.
The Rangers also placed first in the 4x800 meter relay led by Long-Torres, Williams, Woody, and Garcia with a time of 11:08.89.
