Rangers Fall to UAFS in Season Opener

FT. SMITH, Ark. - In the first outing of the 2016 Baseball season, the Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball team fell to Arkansas Fort Smith 9-3.

At the Plate

Matt Benn was the leader at the plate for the Rangers, bringing in three runs off a double and a two-run homer.
Three other Rangers hit .500 on the day as Jacob Long, Greg Marco and Colton Krokroskia all went 1-for-2 on the outing.

The K Zone

Robert Lawhon started off the game on the bump for Northwestern, going two and two-thirds innings, striking out four, but gave up seven runs on seven hits.
Brody Ausfahl came in during the third inning, and had a solid outing striking out four and only giving up two hits in 3.1 innings.
Thomas Sander and Jason Barlett both entered the game as well, throwing two-thirds and one-thirds innings, respectively.
Finishing out the game with a full inning's work for the Rangers was Trevor Rakers who collected two strikeouts and a three-up, three-down inning.

Game Changer

During the second inning, the Black-and-Red had three costly errors, leading to a three-run inning.
Four more runs crossed the plate for the Lions in the third, putting the game out of reach.

Around the Horn

This was the first game the two teams have ever played against each other.

On Deck

Northwestern Oklahoma State will be playing a double header against Arkansas Fort Smith tomorrow afternoon starting at noon.
