ALVA, Okla. -- Northwestern Oklahoma State started off the game on an offensive tear and kept it going throughout the nine innings, eventually earning them the win 14-9 over Bemidji State.

At the Plate
  • The first four batters reached on singles in the first inning and a total of six of the first nine reached on hits as well.
  • Six Northwestern batters had multi-hit games as Jacob Long led the way, going 3-3 at the dish. Garrett Douglas (3-4) scored three runs, and drove in a run, while Casey Dickerman (2-3), also had a three-run scoring day. The other three Ranger batters to have two or more hits were Thomas Bess (2-5), Xyruse Martinez (2-4) and Cooper Stanley (2-5). They all also crossed the plate at least once in the contest.
  • Out of the 16 hits, the other two came from Tito Montano Jr. and Christian Hammerl. Hammerl also crossed the plate twice on the day.

The K Zone
  • Getting the start on the mound for the Rangers was senior Jason Barlett who went 4.2 innings while earning two strikeouts before Dakota Stanek was brought in for relief work.
  • Stanek went an inning and two-thirds, collecting two strikeouts before being pulled in the top of the seventh when Trevor Rakers would take the mound for three batters before handing the ball over to Zach Postoak, who was credited with the final two outs of the inning.
  • Postoak would end up throwing the final 2.2 innings for the home team, giving up four hits, but no runs while adding two K's.

Game Changer
  • Bemidji started off the game scoring in the first inning on a controversial play, but the Rangers answered in the bottom half, scoring three runs of their own to get things started off in the right direction.
  • After a leadoff strikeout, the home team would hit for three straight singles to score the first run in the bottom of the second, after which the second run of the inning was brought home by a SAC fly to centerfield by Long. Douglas was the last to cross the plate in the inning and it was on a wild pitch.
  • A pair of singles for the Beavers brought across two runs in the top of the third to make it a three run ballgame, but Northwestern answered in the very next at bat, scoring two more of their own to maintain the five-run advantage.
  • Neither team scored until the fifth inning when BSU put three more runs on the board to make it 8-6 in favor of the Rangers, but the hosts once again answered with a run to make it 9-6.
  • In the bottom half of the sixth inning, the Black-and-Red would plate two more, with the first crossing on a double by Stanley, scoring Long from second. The next run was scored by Stanley who was brought home following a triple by Martinez.
  • The game started to get a little dicey in the top of the seventh inning when three runners were brought home following a walked in run, a fielder's choice and a single, making it 11-9.
  • Once again however, the Rangers had an answer for the visitors as the final three runs crossed the plate for the hosts on a single and an error in the bottom of the inning.

On Deck
  • Northwestern will travel to Shawnee, Okla. to face off with Great American Conference opponent, Oklahoma Baptist (16-6, 8-4 GAC) on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a double-header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
