Softball Splits Doubleheader With Rival SWOSU

Leading Off - Game One
Score: Southwestern 6 - Northwestern 8
Records: SWOSU (15-30, 13-22 GAC) - NW (10-33, 8-25 GAC)
Location: Alva Rec Complex - Alva, Okla.

ALVA, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball defeated arch rival Southwestern Oklahoma State in the first of two games Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 8-6. 


At The Dish
  • Leading the offensive charge for the black-and-red was Madison McGraw who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and one homerun. 
  • Megan Sanders provided a big day at the plate in the opening game as she hit 1-for-3 with three RBIs, and one homerun.
  • Caitlin Coody added a big spark of offensive power for Northwestern as she blasted a pinch hit homerun over the left field wall to add to the home lead. 
  • Jordan Haya had herself a day at the plate as well going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one stolen base.


The K Zone
  • Madison Garza began in the circle for the Rangers as she threw 5.0 total innings, only allowing two earned runs and was able to shut down seven Bulldogs on strikeouts. 
  • Brittany Olender came in to pitch 2.0 innings of relief and gave up five hits, three earned runs, and was able to strike out two. 

Game Changer
  • The biggest factor in this contest was the fact that the Rangers were able to hit three total homeruns in this game which certainly charged up the home offense to power them to victory over the rival Bulldogs.
  • Northwestern jumped out to a hot start in this match-up as well as they were able to put up six runs through the first three innings of the game which guided them throughout the rest of the contest.

Score: Southwestern 10 - Northwestern 1
Records: SWOSU (16-30, 14-22 GAC) - NW (10-34, 8-26 GAC)
Location: Alva Rec Complex - Alva, Okla.

ALVA, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball fell to rival and GAC opponent Southwestern Oklahoma State in game two Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 10-1.


At The Dish
  • Madison McGraw finished the day with her fourth straight multi-hit game as she finished 2-for-3 in this contest.
  • Jordan Haya recorded the only other hit in the match-up for the Rangers as she went 1-for-3 against SWOSU.
     
The K Zone
  • Karly Murray started in the circle for the Rangers as she went 1.1 innings allowing seven earned runs on five hits and struck out two. 
  • Brittany Olender provided 1.1 innings of relief in the match-up giving up two runs, two hits, and one walk. 
  • Madison Garza came in on a relief effort to finish out the game as she threw 2.1 innings and only allowed one run on three hits and was able to record two strikeouts. 

     
Game Changer
  • The biggest factor in game two between these two rivals was definitely the hit totals as the Bulldogs recorded 10 total hits compared to the Rangers three. This offensive surge by the visitors also led them to hold an early 9-0 lead over the black-and-red after just two innings of play. 
     


On Deck
Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball will next host GAC foe Harding Univeristy, Friday April 15, as a part of a doubleheader, and four game series, against the Bisons starting at 2 p.m. at the Alva Rec Complex. This will also be the Rangers last home contests of the 2016 season and Northwestern will be honoring seniors this coming weekend as well.
