Harding Tops Northwestern Twice to Open Series

Leading Off - Game One
Score: Harding 10 - Northwestern 4
Records: HU (28-21, 20-17 GAC) - NW (10-35, 8-27 GAC)
Location: Alva Rec Complex - Alva, Okla.

ALVA, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball was taken down by the Bisons of Harding University Friday afternoon by a final score of 10-4. 


At The Dish
  • Madison McGraw continued her hot streak at the plate by going 3-for-4 on the day.
  • Amber Mills provided some solid appearances offensively finishing the game 2-for-4 with one run scored, and two RBIs. 
  • Senior Caitlin Coody went 1-for-1 in the contest as well with one run scored. 


The K Zone
  • Madison Garza started in the circle for the black-and-red in game number one as she threw 3.1 total innings on 10 hits allowed, and gave up six earned runs.
  • Brittany Olender provided 1.2 innings of relief allowing two earned runs, two hits, and was able to strike out one batter.
  • Karly Murray and Erin Norrie threw the final 2.0 innings for the Rangers as they combined to allow one earned run, four hits and Murray struck out two. 

Game Changer
  • Northwestern found themselves down early to the Bisons as HU would lead the black-and-red 3-0 through three innings. The Rangers battled back midway throughout the contest to only trail by two runs at 6-4 by the end of the fourth inning.
  • Harding opened up the scoring line in the sixth and seventh innings after scoring four total runs to cap off the victory over the Rangers, 10-4.

Score: Harding 15 - Northwestern 7

Location: Alva Rec Complex - Alva, Okla.

ALVA, Okla. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball was defeated by the Bisons of Harding in the second match-up of the day at home by a final score of 15-7.



At The Dish
  • Amber Mills lead the offensive charge for Northwestern as she finished the afternoon hitting 2-for-4 with one run scored, three RBIs, one stolen base, and one homerun. 
  • Jordan Haya, Megan Sanders, and Peyton Garrett recorded 2-for-4 days at the plate as well, along with Haya and Sanders each having one homerun a piece, and all three tacked on one RBI a piece as well. 
  • Caitlin Coody provided the remaining RBI for the home squad as she went 1-for-3 in game number two.
     
The K Zone
  • Karly Murray began in the circle for the Rangers as she went 3.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and struck out one opposing hitter.
  • Erin Norrie came in on relief for Northwestern to pitch 2.1 innings on four hits and allowed four runs. Madison Garza pitched the final 0.1 inning for the black-and-red as well. 

     
Game Changer
  • Harding was able to score runs in every single inning of this contest except for in the fifth as they combined for 15 total runs and 17 overall hits as a team. 
  • The Rangers made things interesting however in the bottom of the sixth inning as Mills, Sanders and Haya each hit astonishing back-to-back-to-back homeruns to cut into the visitors lead but Harding would ultimately come out on top, 15-7.
     


On Deck
Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball will host GAC opponent Harding University, Saturday April 16, as a part of a doubleheader, and the series conclusion against the Bisons starting at 11 a.m. at the Alva Rec Complex. This will also be the Rangers last home contests of the 2016 season.
