BETHANY, Okla. - It was a crazy day in Bethany, Okla. as Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene battled it out in the first game where the Crimson Storm came out on the winning side, 1-0 in a long 14-inning game while the second was suspended due to darkness in the top of the sixth.
GAME 1
The first game of the series was a tough one for the Lady Rangers and pitcher
Madison Garza as she would throw upwards of 190 pitches in the complete game.
The senior from Edna, Texas gave up just one run on nine hits and recorded an astonishing 16 strikeouts.
Two Northwestern batters had two-hit games as
Peyton Garrett ended with a 2-for-5 outing while
Morgan Kirk was 2-for-6.
Just three other players recorded hits in the game for the Lady Rangers.
It was a fairly quiet game heading into the fifth inning, but the Rangers were finally able to get two people on board. Following a Garrett single up the middle, Alexis Bailey made her way to third, but both were left stranded as the opportunity for runs was dashed on a fly out to right field.
Garza remained steady through the next two innings, but ran into some trouble in the final inning of regular play where three baserunners were allowed on. The senior got her way out of the jam however, sending it to extras.
That was the last real threat until the last inning where an unfortunate error led to the go-ahead and winning run.
GAME 2
The second game of the afternoon was a different story as each team was able to get the offense going early with eight hits coming from the Lady Rangers through five innings and 13 for the hosts.
Northwestern started off the scoring for the game, plating two runs with one coming off a double by
Madison McGraw scoring
Madi Parrott and the other on a single up the middle by Madewell.
Before the Crimson Storm could get started, the Red-and-Black were able to plate another run on a Parrott single up the middle, making it a 3-0 advantage for the visitors.
In the bottom of the third inning, the home team tied it up at 3-3 on two singles and a fielder's choice.
The runs kept coming for Northwestern as they put up another score on another single, this time by
Jordan Sutton, scoring Garrett on the play, but once again the Storm had an answer, but it didn't come until the fifth inning where they knotted it up at four apiece.
That would be the end of the day for the game however as the darkness rule came into effect. The remainder of the game is set to be played out tomorrow at noon when the first game was slated to begin originally.
