Box Score ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State responded to Monday's home opener loss in a magnificent way. The Rangers won this one 11-0 against Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
"Thought it was a total team effort tonight. Delighted to score the number of goals that we had. A lot of different people on the score sheet, obviously pleased defensively we did what was necessary to preserve the shutout. Good team win, definitely gives us momentum into these last two games before conference season opens."
Ranger soccer controlled this game from the jump, and never looked back. They would have a few scoring chances early on in the game after a couple of shots. Senior forward, Hollie Pankake would capitalize on her second chance finding the back of the net to put NWOSU up 1-0 about six minutes into the game.
That would only start the scoring barrage for the night. Northwestern would find the back of the net 10 more times in the game. The Ranger attack was well balanced having nine different scorers in the game. Including Abby Nunez (2), Yazmin Gomez, Ashlie Wilhite, Makayla Barrientos, Carlie Massingale , Hollie Pankake, Whitney Blanchard, Mikayla Edris and Kaley Whitworth (2).
"Obviously I am excited for the girls' this is a way to show where the program is going, shows proof for what we have accomplished as a team. It is a way to give them a reward for their effort. We had a number of people score their first college goal. Delighted and excited for them a nice to make a little history as well."
The history that NWOSU made Friday night was tying the school record with eleven goals along with setting the school record for goals in a Division II game.
NWOSU would go into halftime with a lead of 5-0. The second half started just as strong as the first half. After getting seven quick shots to open it the eighth was goal number six this time from Yazmin Gomez.
The defense was outstanding for the Rangers. NWOSU would capture their second shutout of the season. On top of that success they would go as far as not allowing one shot in the game. The Rangers would outshoot the Aggies 69-0.
"Thought as a team we came out played hard. Started all six of the seniors thought they played well as a group. We had a number of freshman score and really had a player from every class score. Whole team effort got everyone involved, but still got a lot of work. Pleased to get the result but still things to improve on. Great minutes from the bench, and the starters really set the tone for us."
This win evens their record at 2-2 on the season. The Rangers will get a little break as they will off until Thursday, Sept. 19 as they will travel to San Antonio to face St. Mary's University (Texas) for their second to last game out of conference play.
