Northwestern Splits Day with Arkansas Tech

Leading Off - Game One
Score: Northwestern 3 - Arkansas Tech 2
Records: NW (11-40, 9-32 GAC) - ATU (43-7, 33-6 GAC)
Location: Chartwells Women's Sports Complex - Russellville, Ark.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball knocked off #8 Arkansas Tech on the road in game one of two Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-2.


At The Dish


The K Zone
  • Karly Murray started in the circle in game one for Northwestern as she pitched a complete game of 7.0 total innings for the win, only allowing two earned runs on five hits and struck out eight batters.
     

Game Changer
  • Northwestern was able to get on the board first in this contest against ATU as they led 1-0 to open the ballgame in the first inning. 
  • Arkansas Tech tied things up in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple to see the game knotted up at 1-1. The Rangers were able to add to their score line in both the fifth and sixth innings to see themselves take game one 3-2 on the road. 
  • The Golden Suns struggled at the plate as they were out hit by the visitors 7-5, and ATU left a game high eight runners stranded on the base paths.

Records: NW (11-41, 9-33 GAC) - ATU (44-7, 34-6 GAC)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball was downed in game number two against Arkansas Tech by a final score of 5-1. 


At The Dish
  • Guiding the Northwestern offense in game number two was Stephanie Couser who finished 2-for-2 on the day with one walk. 
  • Madison McGraw hit 1-for-3 in the match-up as well with one run scored. 
  • Megan Sanders and Lacey Hudson each provided one hit a piece also in the contest. 

     
The K Zone
  • Madison Garza got the start for game two and threw 4.0 innings giving up three earned runs, three walks, and allowed 10 hits.
  • Erin Norrie came on in relief to pitch the final 2.0 innings and only gave up one hit in her outing. 

     
Game Changer
  • Arkansas Tech jumped out to an early lead in this one as a three-run homerun gave the Golden Suns the advantage in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • ATU was able to sustain a lead throughout the entire contest due to their 11 total hits, despite Northwestern scoring one run in the top of the sixth inning. 
     


On Deck
This concludes the 2016 regular season for Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball as the Rangers unfortunately did not qualify for a spot in the GAC tournament and will look to improve upon this season in the following year.
