Demetrice “Mickey” Henderson Stephens is one of the greatest women’s basketball players to ever wear a Ranger uniform. She came to Alva from Memphis, Texas, by way of Clarendon (Texas) Community College, and is the seventh leading scorer in Lady Ranger basketball history, scoring 1,096 points during her two-year career.
 
From 1977-1979, she paced the Lady Rangers to a 47-21 record. In 1978, Stephens led Northwestern to their first ever State AIAW Championship and was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player. For her hard work, Stephens was named an All-American following her junior season. During her senior year, she led Northwestern to their eighth best season ever with a 24-11 record. She is a member of Northwestern’s elite 1,000 point club and is the only Lady Ranger do to so in just two years. Stephens played her senior season under the direction of coach Milburn Barton.
 
While at Clarendon Community College, she earned many honors and awards. Stephens was selected to all-tournament teams during both her freshman and sophomore seasons. She was named the most valuable player and was an all-conference pick during here sophomore year.
 
Stephens is now a pre-school teacher at Ainsworth Child Care Association in Ardmore. She has two sons, Dimitri and Christopher.
