Northwestern Baseball thrived in the late ‘70’s and early 80’s, much to the fact that Fred Schamburg was on the pitching staff and set records that still stand to this day.

Fred holds four records as a Ranger pitcher. He is first all-time in innings pitched in a single season (119) as well as innings pitched in a career (324). He also holds the prestigious record of most wins in a season (11) as well as over his career (24).

Schamburg was part of some monumental teams in his time in a Ranger uniform, being on the first team to win 100 games over a span of four years and the first to win 34 games in a season.

Fred is also ninth on the all-time strikeouts list in a single season with 79.

Because of his success at Northwestern,
Fred played a summer of semi-professional baseball in Wichita, Kan. and two summers with a semi-pro team in Liberal, Kan. He was instrumental in winning two State Championships with the team, One NBC World Series Championship as well as a runner-up finish.

One of the career highlights for Fred was defeating SWOSU in the 1979 playoffs in OKC.

Fred earned his degree at Northwestern in Economics/ Business Administration in 1981.

Not only was he a great player, he also went on to coach summer league baseball from 1992-2010, and in 2010 he had one of his fondest memories as a coach when he coached the 14 & under team in a 15 & under league to State Champions in 2010.

Fred and his wife Kelly Schamburg now reside in Weatherford, Okla. They also have two sons, Logan and Grant.
