Originally from Ponca City, Graves graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in agri-business. While at Northwestern, he participated in rodeo from 1997 to 2002.
He has qualified for the National Finals Rodeo six times. His other accomplishments include being a three-time College National Finals qualifier, a two-time Central Plains Regional Champion, a two-time Prairie Circuit Champion, a two-time Dodge National Circuit Finals qualifier and a Dodge National Circuit Finals Champion – all in steer wrestling. He holds the College National Finals arena record of 3.4 seconds.
Graves, who lives in Newkirk, joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1997. Currently a professional steer wrestler, he has also competed in team roping and tie-down roping. He finished 2008 ranked eighth in the world standings and finished ninth in 2009. Qualifying for his first National Finals Rodeo has been the highlight of his career thus far, he said.
