Coming to Alva from his hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana, Kevin Robinson was a rare six-year member of the Northwestern basketball team under the leadership of head coach Bob Battisti. Robinson arrived on campus in 1987 as a redshirt freshman before becoming a standout player from 1989-93.

A dynamic player on the offensive end of the floor, Robinson scored 1,232 career points and became the 10th Ranger player to enter the prestigious 1,000-point club. The standout averaged 12.2 points a game in 101 games played during his Ranger career. Robinson finished his career in the Northwestern record book as a prolific long-range shooter with 144 three-pointers made.

In his final season after being granted a medical hardship, Robinson helped the 1992-93 team to the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference championship and a top 10 appearance in the NAIA national rankings. That season he scored 16.8 points per game, earning first-team All-OIC, second-team All-District 9 and honorable mention All-America honors.

Robinson came on strong his sophomore season when he was described as “…the best all-around player on the Ranger squad.” He led the Rangers in scoring with 347 total points, and after sitting out the 1990-91 season due to a knee injury. He returned with an outstanding junior season, averaging 13.1 points per game and dishing out 80 assists. He earned a second-team All-OIC selection.  

He made an immediate impact as a freshman, playing in 26 games and scoring seven points per contest. He led the Rangers in the season finale with a 20-point performance against Northeastern.

The former Ranger star is now using the skills he garnered during his career and is passing them along to today’s youth. Robinson is currently an educator in the Dallas Independent School District as a sixth grade basketball coach. He has led his teams to various league championships over the years.

Not only is he an outstanding coach, but Robinson has been recognized for his work with students in the classroom with Teacher of the Year honors in 2001 and 2016, as well as being a Distinguished Teacher Award recipient in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
In 2005, Robinson founded Total Basketball Development, a development program for athletes ages 7-19. located in Dallas.

Robinson resides in Garland, Texas, with his wife Alethea and son Bryce.
